Yume Nikki II by Kuronee-chan Yume Nikki II by Kuronee-chan
So so another lovely picture from the Yume Nikki night shoot.
I think this shot is actually really nice, and suits the game.
Seems like it'd be in one of the worlds.
I dont really know why this file is so big...

The file is so big cause the format of the picture is png, an image format that employs lossless data compression~ So it's great for preserving detail, but you pay for it in file size.

The commonly used image format on the internet is jpg, cause it does a great job at compression, with minimal loss of detail (which usually goes unnoticed).

Thanks for answering the question. I never did realize that png would take up more data. From my experience png always retained the quality better then jpg, so that's why I usually save the edits under that format.

Would you recommend I save future edits under jpeg?

For yourself, you should save the edits as a png (or a psd), to retain all that lovely data, in case you ever want to edit it, again. But for anything being displayed online, jpg is best~

PNG also has the amazing ability to remember transparency (eg, you want there to be no background, just a person/character), which a jpg can not do.

I use gimp, so I save the work in progress edits under the "xcf" format (I usually have a few layers open for my editing). So I don't think I'll need to save it under PNG unless it's a final product. It's always been my preference because it retained almost the original quality of what I was working on. When I tried Jpeg a few times I didn't like the way it turned out to be noticeably inferior quality.

Lol that's the only thing I did know about PNG.

Well thanks for your input!

srsly, one of the best I've seen. I see a few good Mados, but not many actually bother to do good composition. there's emotion in this too :3

The original image is 4256x2832 and takes up 5.06mb

The edited is the same size but takes up 16.3mb

I tried saving the edited version another way and got it down to 14.2mb (by flattening all of the layers instead of merging them). I think merging retains the quality of the edits better so I kept it that way.

The reason why the file is so huge in terms of data is because of all the tweaking I did with the lighting, skin tone adjustment and air brushing.
